South Dakota Public Broadcasting Interview South Dakota Mines researcher fighting plastics with microbes

Interview at South Dakota Public Broadcasting

Tanvi Govil

Using plastics on agricultural land could expose South Dakotans’ food and water to microplastics. Biodegradable plastics may change that.

So how can we produce environmentally friendly plastics? It could be as easy as deleting or inserting a few genes in microbes.

Tanvi Govil, Ph.D, is a research scientist at South Dakota Mines. She’s working on genetically engineering microbes to produce bioplastics.
